EXPERIMENTAL for musicians who stray from set formats and genres
Kala-OK is the newest addition to the record label Tambourhinoceros (Iceage, Treefight For Sunlight etc). On April 11th Kala-OK debuts with the album ”Reminiscence of a Bodily Blues” - preorder are taken here: http://luffshop.com/products-page/kala-ok/pre-orderkala-okreminiscence-of-a-bodily-blues/
Kala-OK is a one-man band created by multi-instrumentalist Kristian Mondrup. In 2009, Kristian moved to China to learn Chinese and explore music. The album "Reminiscence of a Bodily Blues" is the result of this journey into the landscape of music and the loneliness of China far away from his girlfriend and the musicians and friends in Copenhagen.
Returning from China in 2010, Kristian invited friends onboard the concept of Kala-OK; to name a few, singer Christian Rohde Lindinger of Treefight For Sunlight, Nicolai Koch formerly member Oh No Ono and Choir of Young Believers sing lead on many of the songs on the album.
The new single ”Stars Are A Sailing” is sung by his girlfriend Shiyuan Liu - an up-and-coming video artist chosen last year by the Guggenheim Museum in New York for the Still Spottin NYC Video Exibition. "Stars Are A Sailing" is a goodnight song written by Kristian to himself but sung by his girlfriend when the two were living in different parts of the world; Kristian in Taipei and Shiyuan Liu in New York.
About the album Kristian Mondrup says:
”Contrary to most songwriters I am a drummer, not a singer or a guitar player. This means that many of my songs are written with rythm as the starting point. For years I have recorded a lot of melodic samples played on different instruments, and the album is the result of all these samples cut-and-pasted into songs which I have played and added drums and bass to.”
”Reminiscence of a Bodily Blues” is out on Tambourhiniceros April 11th on vinyl and digitally
