Sylvester "Sly Kidd" Naing, born in the heart of Mandalay, Burma, raised on the coast of Western Australia in Perth City from the tender age of four. Having only djayed for the past four years, this up-and-coming prodigy has a lot to offer.
From the baby steps with Virtual DJ, to Serato, to settling in and mastering the art of Traktor s4 Kontrol - DJ Sly Kidd is as experimental as he is versatile. His biggest credit is his ability to flawlessly interchange between genres. Sly Kidd showcases meticulous talent with everything from hip hop, rnb, neo-soul and pop to the other end of the spectrum with house, electro and dub step and new style of trap music - an art to only a select few have managed to succeed with.
DJ Sly Kidd has experience in and caters to all sizes and mediums of shows, from house parties and boat cruises, to club events, and also weddings. Some of his biggest live shows include Perth's Biggest Underage events (PBU); Jungle Night, Twi-Night, Foam Party, Pool Party at the Rock Club, and finally Metro City's Dynasty event for the Chinese Society Perth University students. "Feeling the vibe from up on that stage is something I'll never forget. Shout out to DJ Matty, I wouldn't have had that opportunity if it wasn't for him. Also, I have to thank DJ Klymax for hooking me up with the first PBU Event - it was one hell of a night".
"When I first started djaying, there weren't as many young DJ's at house parties as there were old guys playing songs people haven't heard of and can't dance to. The reason I started djaying is because I love playing music people can dance to, seeing them at events being genuinely happy with my mixing… After gigs, people have approached me and said they want to start learning to DJ because of me; it feels good knowing that I gave them that hope. I love what I do".
DJ Sly Kidd shows love for the local industry, seeking his main influences from DJ Kronic of Sydney, Australia and DJ Skooby of Perth, Australia. "Back when I was starting out, DJ Kronic was playing live at SHAKE, an under-age event, I loved his hip hop mixes. DJ Skooby is my absolute favourite. And then there's DJ Clinton Sparks, I used to listen to his radio station back in the day, plus he always had his mixes up for free download… I still listen to them to this day".
Seeking knowledge from anywhere and everywhere possible, DJ Sly Kidd hopes to eventually delve into production and composition of his own beats. Sly describes his upcoming mixture projects; "I want to do something different with my mixtures. I want to avoid just rnb or just hiphop, I want every genre. I want the hottest songs from each genre and make it work. Something timeless that people will never get sick of listening to".
"I still see myself djaying when I get to my later stages of life, it's something I'm always going to want to do. Whether its all over the world or just a weekly gig at the local clubs; that would be fine by me…".
Stay tuned for 2013 with Sly Kidd.
