A small big record LABEL


In the current era where record companies are passing away worldwide, from Italy comes Summer Dawn, a new label created within that organic music greenhouse going by the name of Edizioni Ishtar. Since 15 years they have been responsible for launching to international success artists like Nicola Conte, Gerardo Frisina, The Dining Rooms, S-Tone Inc., Toco, Mario Biondi, Rosalia De Souza and many more.

The name Summer Dawn derives from the homonymous album of ’64 by Sahib Shihab, the great solo saxophonist in the Clarke-Boland Big Band, whose best recordings from the past Edizioni Ishtar keeps reissuing to date on their imprint Rearward, for the benefit of jazz collectors all over the world.

Remaining faithful to the jazz habitat, Summer Dawn will explore more indie territories, offering itself as alternative to the much appreciated Schema sound.

The first work that the label will release over Europe, Japan and North America is entitled “Score”, the debut album by RAah Project, some Australian talented musicians with a great passion for soundtracks, orchestral music and hip hop. It spawned from an idea by Ryan Ritchie and Tamil Rogeon. The RAah Project stands out immediately as the most credible overseas alternative to the European sound of Cinematic Orchestra , Matthew Herbert Big Band or the eccentric dub of Fat Freddy’s Drop from New Zealand. Recorded with the support of a strings section of 17 members, staged by the Australian Show Big Band, in addition this work boasts the presence of the best musicians in the vibrant music scene of Melbourne. “Score” represents a work of music consistent as well as innovative: the humus is classical music and movies’ soundtracks; yet the overall mood is an elegant mix of big band orchestrations, simple pop melodies, moderate contributions of electronic music, hip-hop rhythms, and soul sensitivity ultimately matched by a surprising vocal as well as composing ability.

世界中でレーベルの不況が伝えられるなか、イタリアEdizioni Ishtarから新レーベル「Summer Dawn」が登場。Edizioni Ishtarは、これまで15年間に渡ってニコラ・コンテ、ジェラルド・フリジーナ、ザ・ダイニング・ルーム、S-Tone Inc.、トコ、マリオ・ビンディ、ロザリア・デ・ソーザほか、多くのアーティストを世に送り出し、世界的な成功を収めてきた。レーベル名「Summer Dawn」は、クラーク＝ボーラン楽団の偉大なソリスト、サヒブ・シハブによる’64年の作品タイトルに由来。Edizioni Ishtarでは、世界中のジャズ・コレクターに過去の名作を届ける「Rearward」レーベルで同作品のリイシューをおこなっている。「オルタナティヴなサウンド」をもとにその地位を築いたSchemaレーベル。Summer Dawnにおいても、ジャズに囲まれたその環境に背くことなく、そして今度は「インディ」の領域に臨む。ヨーロッパ、日本、アメリカでリリースとなる第1作目は、映画音楽やオーケストラ、ヒップ・ホップをルーツとするオーストラリア出身の新人アーティスト、Rahhh Projectのデビュー・アルバム「Score」。
Ryan RitchieとTamil Rogeonによって結成されたRahhh Projectは、アメリカのオルタナティヴから、シネマティック・オーケストラ、あるいはマシュー・ハーバート・ビッグ・バンドといったヨーロピアンなサウンドまでを放つ。17人編成の管弦楽団、Australian Show Big Bandのサポートを得て、本作ではメルボルン最高レベルのミュージシャンがレコーディング参加していると言えよう。揺るぎなく、そしてイノヴェイティヴな作品、クラシックと映画音楽を土壌としながら、それでいてこのグローバルなムードは、ビッグバンドのオーケストレーション、明快なポップ・メロディ、エレクトロニカ的要素、ヒップホップのリズム、ソウル感覚、そしてこれらをうまく音楽に取り込む才能、ヴォーカル、の見事なバランスによってもたらされている。
