“A purveyor of wonderful melodic acoustic pop, that is filled with charm and genuine emotion…” - God Is In The TV Zine

Stylusboy is the creation of Steve Jones, an ‘enchanting lo-fi folk’ singer/songwriter born and bred in Coventry, UK. Through his charming melodies and poignant lyrics Stylusboy brings lo-fi folk music to life. Capturing at its heart the raw emotion of every lyric, his music is purposely stripped-back and honest. Jones, works closely with good friend and musical collaborator Rachel Grisedale, who adds an extra dimension to the songs, turning the already gorgeous melodies into a rich and sumptuous harmony that brings to mind the first rush of love, or the warm summer air of the countryside bathed in sunlight. In June 2011 cult label Lazy Acre Records released Stylusboy’s second collection of songs ‘Whole Picture EP’. Label boss Ben Mainwaring was captured by the essence of the early demos:

“It takes a lot for us to take our loving gaze away from the Oslo indie pop / folk scene and the glock rich early mixes the ‘Whole Picture EP’ were more than enough to convince us that a trip up the M6 should be our next move.”

‘Whole Picture EP’ received critical acclaim and attention from UK and abroad, the likes of BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson, Acoustic Magazine, Rock ‘n’ Reel Magazine and renowned songwriter Polly Paulusma praising Stylusboy’s fragile, sensitive folk songs. Cutting edge music magazine Artrocker described the EP as ‘timeless’ and said:

“Stylusboy’s ‘Whole Picture’ EP is blown up with folk galore, vocal harmonies, xylophone twinkles, rhythmic acoustic guitar riffs and even some cello licks.”

In keeping with his personal and charming music, Stylusboy makes his own delightful and unique limited edition CDs, all individually handcrafted and sold on a ‘pay what you want basis’. Numerous intimate house-shows, online gigs (live from his kitchen), mainstage festival performances and supporting the likes of Newton Faulkner, Jon Gomm, Rue Royale, and Paper Aeroplanes have given the Boy Stylus a dedicated following. Stylusboy is making his mark on the music industry, one charming folk tune at a time. Tom Robinson, BBC 6Music champion of new music describes Stylusboy as:

“A leading light among today’s new generation of DIY digital troubadours, Stylusboy’s music reflects his open, yet fiercely independent nature. Whether playing solo house concerts or theatre shows with a full band, everything he does is connected, committed and community-oriented. This is a songwriter whose developing career I’ve been keenly following, and which many musicians twice his age would do well to emulate.”
