About
Winning DJ Magazine's Mix competition, DJ'ing at the Space Ibiza Closing Party and signing to Steve Lawler's Harlem label, all within a month of each other in 2003, signalled Stu Hirst's arrival on the electronic music scene.
Since then, Stu has gone on to become an international touring DJ and prolific producer of some stature, having released on some of the most important labels in dance music and appearing at some of the finest clubs on the planet.
Stu is best known for his affiliation to Global Underground, a brand which needs no introduction. He came to GU via his first smash hit “Rhythmique”, which was a favourite of Pete Tong on Radio 1 and became Steve Lawler's signature closing record (which he still often finishes with to this day). Lawler used it to close the final instalment of the Lights Out series for GU and the association continued, with Stu becoming one of the central artists on the GU roster.
Lawler described Rhythmique as a “truly amazing record” and charted it at number 3 in his all time Harlem Nights tracks. Stu became a firm favourite of Lawler and began a close association with both his Harlem and VIVA labels, releasing numerous tracks.
Between 2004 and 2009, Stu released tracks on a huge variety of labels, under a number of aliases. His tracks were released by GU, CR2, Subversive, Harlem, Distinctive, VIVA, Baroque, System, Forensic, Toolroom, Rococco, Plastic Fantastic, Fantastic House, Limbo and many more. These were supported by almost every A-list DJ on the planet, with substantial Radio One plays from the likes of Pete Tong, Judge Jules, Annie Nightingale and Trophy Twins.
2008 saw Stu sign with CR2, another of the biggest electronic brands, releasing 3 singles, one of which (“Synth Surfing”) Tong described as “sensational” on his radio show. He remixed Essential New Tune “Sunshyne” for the label.
Stu has had tracks included on over 25 compilations, including many of the GU compilations, Renaissance, Armada and CR2 (including their Space and Miami mix CD's).
Stu is now an extremely in-demand producer and remixer and continues to release tracks with some of the leading labels. 2010 saw Stu sign to, amongst others, Punx BrandNewVibe, In Motion Music, BDR Music, Mirabilis, Vitalik and High Definition.
Stu presents monthly shows on Global Underground's flagship Ministry Of Sound show, presents a show on Proton Radio, one of the most popular electronic internet stations and also has a podcast with over 3000 subscribers.
Stu has appeared at some of the finest clubs in the World, including appearances at three Closing Parties for the mighty Space in Ibiza, Global Club in Lithuania, Amsterdam Dance Conference and many more, including La Mania (Romania), Privilege (Ibiza), Nautilus (Latvia), Gravity (Lithuania), Piekarnia (Poland), Ministry Of Sound, The Cross, Heaven, Turnmills and many more. In 2006, Stu mixed the covermount CD for Baltic dance and lifestyle magazine “Flash", and toured Eastern Europe to promote the mix. 2009 saw Stu headline the largest festival in the Baltics - the Baltic Beach Festival and 2010 saw Stu tour South Africa during the FIFA World Cup.
Stu is an integral part of the Global Underground Touring roster and continues to DJ across the globe, showcasing his talents to wide ranging audiences.
