are these phrases played or generative? either way - wonderful

    2. stretta on September 03, 2008 19:23

@vo1k1: The same technique was used for most of the pieces on this release. I would set up a loop of some length (say four bars) and play one or two notes. Then, listen. Then I'd add another note. And again... Then I'd solo over the result. On Water Against Stone, I enhanced the impression by reversing one note to lead into the phrase and adding the trailing delay.

@stretta: Thanks for the detailed reply. Methods of construction and arrangement are fascinating to me. Btw, wrt/ mattrick's comment, I see no way of downloading this, here or on your blog - am I missing something (I'd love to have this live on my ipod)?

Anywhere you hear reverb (like here) it is Audio Damage Eos

      great groove!

    2. stretta on June 13, 2009 16:32

@rezzn8r: Thanks! Due to the nature of recording with a modular, there was a lot of track variations all sitting on top of each other, and the editing process revealed, or maybe unearthed, this groove. Sometimes you hear only a single edited 1/8th or 16th note of a track in four measures of audio.
