@stufflinear: Well, the Z-DSP is digital, after all, but I think something can be both digital and organic. Not to put words in Mark's mouth, but when working with feedback loops, you're dealing closely with chaos and here is where you get the organic nature of blossoming sound.
@mvincent: I'd agree.
The definition of good music is the same as humor: set up an expectation and break it. It is unfortunate that composers can not feel the same sense of surprise and gratification as someone listening for the first time.
@Tetramorph: Thank you for listening! I'd consider making an album of similar material, but 200 listens since Friday isn't exactly setting the world on fire. I don't want to waste my time making something very few people will listen to. There are so many worthy projects to consider.
@rezzn8r: Thanks! Due to the nature of recording with a modular, there was a lot of track variations all sitting on top of each other, and the editing process revealed, or maybe unearthed, this groove. Sometimes you hear only a single edited 1/8th or 16th note of a track in four measures of audio.
Miniwave used for vague vowel sounds
Z3000 sine though the doepfer A-137 wave multiplier to give it some bite.
Anywhere you hear reverb (like here) it is Audio Damage Eos
O hai! I'm the Livewire AFG.

Great breaks.
Tasteful use of 303-class sounds.
This is awesome. The whole tone progression makes me want to hear some crazy chord substitutions on reprise, or maybe have the bass descend in chromatic steps instead of functioning as the root.
nice filtered delay
Re-uploaded to correct some unintended glitchiness. Soundcloud doesn't seem to like AIFFs very much. Apple Lossless seems to work better.
@nk_e: I'll probably edit this down when I package up all the Brood XIV tracks and post as a downloadable album. Soundcloud sometimes chops off the endings of my tracks prematurely.
Re-uploaded this track to correct some glitch artifacts.
@nk_e: Yep, layers of voice, then resampled with DubStation. Also, a layer of phase-vocoded piano.
@Dave Haynes: Argh. I'm sorry. I Inadvertently deleted your other comment in an attempt to reply. This piece is supposed to end abruptly - it ties the unnatural gating at the beginning.
@vo1k1: You'll find download options for the complete album at http://stretta.blogspot.com/2008/06/towering-achievement-of-indescribable.html
@vo1k1: The same technique was used for most of the pieces on this release. I would set up a loop of some length (say four bars) and play one or two notes. Then, listen. Then I'd add another note. And again... Then I'd solo over the result. On Water Against Stone, I enhanced the impression by reversing one note to lead into the phrase and adding the trailing delay.
