Official Rules
NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. BY ENTERING, ENTRANT AGREES TO BE BOUND BY THESE OFFICIAL RULES AND THE DECISIONS OF SOUNDCLOUD AND THE JUDGES, WHICH SHALL BE FINAL IN ALL RESPECTS.
CONTEST PERIOD: The Soulection DJ Contest (the “Contest”) starts on March 11, 2025 at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”) and ends on March 17, 2025 at 1:59 p.m. ET (the "Entry Period"). All Entries (as defined below) received after the Entry Period are automatically disqualified.
ELIGIBILITY: The Contest is open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia who are eighteen (18) years of age or older as of the date of entry, who have a current, valid account on SoundCloud as of the date of entry and throughout the completion of the Contest, who are not members of any music or artist union or guild, and who are not currently party to an exclusive music recording contract or publishing deal which would restrict participation in any of the Event. Employees of SoundCloud Inc. ("SoundCloud") and Soulection Records, LLC (“Soulection”) (collectively, the “Contest Parties”) and their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, and advertising and promotion agencies, and members of their immediate family (spouse and parent, children and siblings, and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and persons living in the same household, whether or not related, of such employees, are not eligible to enter or win. Void where prohibited by law. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws. By participating, each entrant (“Entrant” or “you”) agrees to abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Contest Parties and the judges, which shall be final and binding in all respects relating to the Contest. Additionally, all entrants must be the following criteria (“Entry Criteria”), each Entrant must:
- Have an active Artist Pro subscription on the SoundCloud platform
- Have reliable transportation to commute to the venue at the Event
- Be present for soundcheck for the appropriate time at the Event, to be determined in Soulection’s sole discretion
- Supply their own back line/DJ set up equipment for the Event
- Be available for advance meetings with house and touring crew/staff, to be determined in Soulection’s sole discretion
- Have a valid form of identification
HOW IT WORKS: In order to participate in the Contest, you must complete and submit the Contest entry form located at https://soundcloud.com/stories/post/soulection-14-year-anniversary-dj-contest-houston (the “Contest Website”) which must include a link to an active SoundCloud profile which includes examples of your musical works. For purposes hereof, all materials submitted by an Entrant in connection with the Contest shall be collectively referred to as the “Entry” or “Entries.”
HOW TO ENTER: To submit an Entry, during the Entry Period: complete and submit the online entry form on the Contest Website with all required information, including the link to your SoundCloud profile.
Only one (1) Entry per person. All Entrants must have a SoundCloud account with an Artist Pro subscription and Entries must be set to public. All applicable SoundCloud terms apply. Uploading an Entry shall constitute Entrant’s agreement to these Official Rules.
The Contest Parties reserve the right to allow for minor deviations from the terms hereof, based on clear intent to comply with these Official Rules, as determined by the Contest Parties in their sole discretion.
By submitting an Entry, Entrant represents and warrants that the Entry conforms to these Official Rules and understands that the Contest parties may disqualify the Entry for any reason, including, without limitation, if it determines that the Entry fails to conform to these Official Rules in any way or otherwise contains unacceptable content.
REPRESENTATIONS AND WARRANTIES: Entrant hereby represents and warrants that: (a) Entrant is not a member of any union or guild having jurisdiction over Entrants participation in the Event; (b) Entrant is not currently signed to an exclusive music recording contract or publishing deal restricting their participation in the Event; (c) Entrant will meet and comply with all of the Entry Criteria, and (d) Entrant agrees to execute any and all documents necessary to grant the rights granted herein.
RIGHTS: If you are confirmed the Winner, to the extent permitted by law, you grant to the Contest Parties a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid up, perpetual, irrevocable, fully sublicensable (through multiple tiers) and transferable license, without additional consideration to Winner, if applicable) or third parties, to (a) reproduce, distribute, perform and display (publicly or otherwise), adapt, modify, edit, translate, make available to the public, make, sell, offer to sell, import, and otherwise use and exploit (and have others exercise such rights on behalf of the Contest Parties, through multiple tiers) your Entry and any materials embodying, incorporating, or derived from your Entry, in any format or media now known or hereafter developed; (b) create derivative works from and incorporate your Entry into other works or into the Soulection’s, SoundCloud’s, or each of their respective designees’ products or services,; (c) use your Entry for the Soulection’s and SoundCloud’s commercial, advertising and promotional purposes; and (d) use the name, photograph, portrait, picture, voice, likeness, statements, and biographical information of you) for the Soulection’s and SoundCloud’s advertising and promotional purposes, whether or not in connection with your Entry, in each case for the purpose of administering and promoting the Contest, any future promotions, and/or Soulection and SoundCloud. You hereby waive any and all rights that you may have under laws worldwide that concern “moral rights” or “droit moral” in connection with your Entry. The Contest Parties reserve the right (but not the obligation) to verify at any time that all necessary rights, clearances, consents, releases, and other permissions in or relating to your Entry have been validly obtained. You agree to fully cooperate with the Contest Parties in any such verification inquiries. The Contest Parties have no obligation to make use of the rights granted to them in these Official Rules.
WINNER DETERMINATION: All eligible Entries received will be judged by qualified judges selected by Soulection on the following criteria: Musical skill and talent, originality and creativity, performance ability, and overall appeal (the “Judging Criteria”). One (1) Entrant will be selected as the winner for the Event whose Entry is selected by the judges based on the Judging Criteria (the “Winner”). In the event of a tie, an additional “tie-breaking” judge selected by Soulection will determine the Winner based on the Judging Criteria. All decisions of Soulection and judges are final and binding. Soulection will not reveal the judging scores for any Entry.
WINNER NOTIFICATION: Potential a Winner will be notified on or about March 19, 2025 and will be required to execute an agreement with Soulection (or third party(ies) designated by Soulection) to participate in the Event. In the event that an agreement for any potential Winner’s participation in the Event is not executed, or the potential Winner is disqualified, at the Contest Parties’ sole discretion, a runner-up may be notified.
PRIZE: One (1) Winner shall be selected for the Contest, and the Winner shall have the opportunity to perform a DJ set at a performance in Houston, Texas on March 22, 2025 featuring the artists professionally known as “Soulection” (the “Event”). The Winner will also receive a Two Thousand Dollars (USD$2,000) cash prize. Meals and transportation will not be provided and there will be no backstage guest list permitted. Exact prize details (i.e. details regarding the Winner’s participation in the Event) shall be determined by Soulection. The Winner is responsible for all taxes (including income and withholding), fees, and other costs associated with prize receipt and use. The prize is awarded “as is” with no warranty or guarantee, express or implied. Winner may not substitute, assign, or transfer prize. Soulection reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to substitute prize (or portion thereof) with one of comparable or greater value. All federal, state, and local taxes, as well as all costs and expenses associated with prize acceptance and use not specified herein as being provided, are the sole responsibility of the Winner. All prize details are at the sole discretion of Soulection.
RELEASE OF LIABILITY: By participating, each Entrant agrees to release, indemnify, discharge, and hold harmless SoundCloud, Soulection, and their respective parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, and their respective officers, directors, shareholders, employees, agents, and representatives of the foregoing (collectively, the “Released Parties”), from and against any and all claims, injury, liability, losses, and damages of any kind resulting, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from Entrant’s participation in the Contest or any Contest-related activity, the acceptance, use or misuse of the prize, or the exercise of the rights granted herein.
IF ENTRANT IS A CALIFORNIA RESIDENT, ENTRANT WAIVES ANY AND ALL RIGHTS UNDER SECTION 1542 OF THE CIVIL CODE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, WHICH PROVIDES AS FOLLOWS: “A GENERAL RELEASE DOES NOT EXTEND TO CLAIMS THAT THE CREDITOR OR RELEASING PARTY DOES NOT KNOW OR SUSPECT TO EXIST IN HIS OR HER FAVOR AT THE TIME OF EXECUTING THE RELEASE AND THAT, IF KNOWN BY HIM OR HER, WOULD HAVE MATERIALLY AFFECTED HIS OR HER SETTLEMENT WITH THE DEBTOR OR RELEASED PARTY.”
DISPUTES: To the extent permitted by applicable law, by entering the Contest, Entrant agrees that any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of the Contest or any prize awarded shall be resolve individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the appropriate federal or state court located in New York, New York. All issues and questions concerning these Official Rules shall be governed by the laws of the State of New York, without giving any effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules.
GENERAL CONDITIONS: Released Parties are not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, damaged, inaccurate, stolen, delayed, misdirected, undelivered, or garbled Entries, email, mail, or other communications of any kind. Released Parties are also not responsible for lost, interrupted, or unavailable network, server, Internet Service Provider, website, or other connections, for miscommunications, for failed computer, satellite, telephone, or cable transmissions or lines, for technical failures, for jumbled, scrambled, or delayed, or misdirected transmissions, for computer hardware or software malfunctions, failures or difficulties, or for other errors or difficulties of any kind, whether human, mechanical, electronic, computer, network, typographical, printing, or otherwise, relating to or in connection with the Contest, including, without limitation, errors or difficulties which may occur in connection with the administration of the Contest, the processing or judging of Entries, the announcement of the prize, or in any Contest-related materials. Released Parties are also not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by site users, tampering, hacking, or by any equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest. Released Parties are also not responsible for injury or damage to any person's computer related to or resulting from participating in this Contest. Persons who tamper with or abuse any aspect of the Contest or any website, who act in an unsportsperson-like or disruptive manner, or who are in violation of these Official Rules, as solely determined by SoundCloud and/or Soulection, will be disqualified and all associated Entries will be void.
Should any portion of the Contest be, in SoundCloud’s or Soulection’s respective sole opinion, compromised by virus, worms, bugs, non-authorized human intervention, or other causes, which, in the sole opinion of SoundCloud and/or Soulection, corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness, or proper play, or submission of Entries, SoundCloud and Soulection reserve the right at their sole discretion to suspend, modify, or terminate the Contest, and if terminated, at their discretion, select the potential Winner from all eligible, non-suspect Entries received prior to action taken, using the judging procedure outlined above or as otherwise deemed fair and appropriate by SoundCloud and Soulection.
CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE THE CONTEST WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SOUNDCLOUD AND SOULECTION RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES AND OTHER REMEDIES (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ATTORNEYS’ FEES) FROM ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.

PRIVACY: Submission of any content or information on the Contest Website is subject to the Contest Parties’ posted policies, including their privacy policies. Any personally identifiable information submitted with an Entry will be shared with the Contest Parties and will be used by SoundCloud in accordance with SoundCloud’s privacy policy posted at https://soundcloud.com/pages/privacy.
