Mystical atmosphere and slow but persistent movement of the beat - that is the rough description of Midnight Express, a piece that seems to anticipate the upcoming autumn, rather then to fit in the hot and intense feeling of the summer months. Like a train passing trough the night, its steady and low-kept beat is just a background for the superstructure of ambient effects creating the misty setting, in which Steve Parker feels most at home. With the base line and percussions condensed at their minimum, Parker opens up space for his mind-twisting melodies and it is just when the clubber stops worrying about his legs that Parkers music gets a grip of his mind. Based on the fragile equilibrium, this record poses a real challenge for the producers, who set out to remix it. Both versions managed to preserve it's best qualities avoiding almost completely all the potential slip-ups. Marko Milicevic worked on the percussions a lot straightening the gentle texture of the original in order to make it more dance floor efficient. Mexx, on the other hand, focused on the dramatic main theme of the song and supported it with a lot tougher beat, while his great work on percussions and effects enabled him to domesticate somewhat abstract original sound creating an unconscious impression that this midnight story is taking place right here and right now. Midnight Express is an exemplary case of o record that manages to develop all the potentials of the basic idea, and also a promising prediction of the JLY's last part of the year!
