"The 'rough music' of the late 17th century
was a noisy, masked procession involving the
ringing of bells, hooting and blowing of horns,
the banging of pots, pans and other implements
with the intention of causing embarrassment to
some wrongdoer when the normal channels of
justice were found lacking. The participants
were temporarily bestowed with the power of
rule over the everyday affairs of the community.

The Rough Musick of the 21st century plays to
grander ears. The power of rule passes
inexorably to the disciples of avaricious self-
    interest. Dwindling natural resources are
squandered to build New Empires of vainglorious
opulence. The sick, the old and the destitute are
discarded as an unproductive drain on this
    ever-growing, all-consuming gluttony.

But our New Emperors' clothes are imaginary.
Their crowns are false. Their words are lies.

Better the harsh realities of Rough Musick
than the empty fantasies of naked greed.

    Let's make some noise."

Steve Baker - Guitar & looping

This is a collection of angular guitar noise and dissonant guitar solos recorded between
2004 - 2013. It is part of an ongoing 'Rough Musick' project/exploration of mine which is
working towards the creation of a 'Rough Musick Ensemble' consisting of drums, percussion,
horns, megaphone poetry and righteous indignation that will 'perform' at the

Atos National Demonstration on Wednesday 19th February.
