The idea of statedlife was introduced, subliminally, within a dream, to musician/dj Matt Guilbeau during his introductory stage to the renaissance of "San Francisco rave culture" in the beginning of the nineteen nineties.

Matt has been immersed in music, even before his birth in nineteen seventy, the son of two very talented classical musicians. Growing up, symphony music was always around him, forever shaping the sound which he would later bring to the world.

Matts ear for music was always open to everything from prog rock to shoegaze, from early funk and soul, to post punk . . . from ambient to industral. Matt started clubbing in nineteen eighty nine and when he heard techno and acid house for the first time his world was definitely rocked. He started going to raves, while buying twelve inch vinyl and putting together mixtapes with tracks by Orbital, Frankie Knuckles, ACR and Sub Sub. The direction of Matts style flowed toward funky breakbeats and house during the mid to late nineties. He played at many parties, big and small, even playing for the first ever rave held at Arco Arena in Sacramento.By this time, Matt had earned the reputation for being one of Sacramentos most talented dj's.

Nearing the turning of the century Matt wanted to improve his musical prowess by relocating to San Francisco where he would began producing electronic music under the moniker statedlife. Hearing Matts music, DJ Dennis, another accomplished former Sacramento DJ was impressed enough to offer him a spot on his hugely successful label Selekta Recordings selektarecordings

Matt has been producing house, techno, progressive, downtempo and breakbeat cuts for Selekta recordings ever since. He has been privileged enough to be part of the 90hz broadcasting community http://90hz.org/ since 2008, doing a weekly pirate broadcast called [[BRING ON THE NIGHT]], he was a guest DJ for the live incarnation of Sunshine Jones' [[Sunday Soul]], he has garnered praise by some of his musical peers and mentors from all genres such as:

Since mid 2010 Matt has also been getting back to his more ambient/post rock and ethereal sounds and influences and is changing gears toward a radio show titled [[Excursions]]

Don't worry though, statedlife will continue to produce jammin' house and breakbeat tracks, he will continue to bring you dj mixes full of classic soul from the sixties seventies and eighties and he WILL always go back to those classic techno and acid house tracks of the early nineties.
