Lightning

This and some of my other grouchy original songs (Godforsaken Town, Under These Strings, No Hope for Dying Birds) are all from a couple of years ago when I was living in Connecticut at the house I grew up in. I moved back there to wait for a loved one to come home from jail. Returning to that place was tough on my spirit because for nearly ten years I'd been traveling and living in interesting places across the US. Luckily I made a few great friends during that year and was inspired to write songs that have stuck with me here in Austin.

This one is "Lightning" and I'm trying to get used to one of those thumb picks..so if it's a little awkward I apologize :)

There's lightning flashing in the sky
Lightning flashing I don't know why.
Something about the charge up in the air and on the ground
Lightening why won't you touch down?

There's many pieces to the whole
and many flavors to the soul.
you throw some out,
but then the trash needs taking out.
and the smell is stinking up your room.

The sky is grey and I can't see.
The grey is just covering me.
But I know somewhere deep inside,
there's a space that's clean.
So grey just do your thing.

What's the use of staying the same?
And what's the use of playing a game?
It's fun to win but then it's over and it goes,
what's the use of anything?

Maybe the use is just right now.
Maybe the joy is just right now.
Maybe it does no good to think about what could've been
Because right now will always win.
