Nobody Except The Moon

Metal Detector - by Jennifer Stuart

I wrote this the other night when the sky had those tortoise shell clouds, but I couldn't get a good picture of it.

Lyrics:

The people in the city
are like stars in the desert
Reminding me I'm small and
full of shit
in the face of such majesty, me and my problems
don't have a shred of a right to exist.

a piece of tape on my sock,
a moon in the sky
And somewhere in between
I became an "I"
trying to survive as if being hurt
was something that doesn't need to happen
if I only try just right.

But maybe the whole fight
of happy versus sad
and dark versus light
is made up like the walls of our houses
paper thin
maybe the best thing they have going
is that they let the noises in.

Cuz life isn't sterile
and life isn't bliss
life is right now
it's right here
it's this
we can all fall apart
in our own special way
into tortoise shell pieces
and then we can play.

You can have depression,
I'll have the OCD.
you bring the teapot
I'll supply the tea.
and we can make noise
to seep through the walls
the stars shine in the windows
and we can have it all
without figuring it out
if we just stop blocking it, blocking it
blocking it, blocking it out.

The people in the city
are like stars in the desert
Reminding me I'm small and
full of shit
in the face of such majesty, me and my problems
don't have a shred of a right to exist.
Cuz life isn't sterile
and life isn't bliss
life is right now
it's right here
it's this
we can all fall apart
in our own special way
into tortoise shell pieces
and then we can play.
