About

Most people get into the whole EDM scene at a slightly older age but not with Shubs. He was just 14 when a friend passed him the legendry CD ‘Northern Exposure’ by Sasha & John Digweed and BOOM, that’s where it all started. The whole Epic-Prog sound of the mid to late nineties was one of the main driving forces behind Shubs unearthing a newer and broader mix of electronic music that had never been heard before. He was a big fan of Sasha & Diggers back in the day and avidly started following their Compilations. This hunger for new music lead to a frantic search for new records by Producers that he respected off those Compilations and so he began importing CDs from the US and UK. This research into the electronic underground sounds from the West lead to the discovery of other famous albums like “Behind the Sun” by Chicane and “Bunkka” by Paul Oakenfold, both of which acted as a catalyst in defining the signature sound of Shubs.

Nowadays, the younger generations of DJs know how to delivery a turbo charged kick between the legs and show these older fellas how things should be done! Such a statement applies here to Shubs, AKA SQ Projekt, who’s Deck Wizardry has been impressing dance floor veterans from as far as Cleveland in the USA to the Motherland of Mumbai.

Shubs burst onto the scene back in August of 2006 where, courtesy of Submerge, he got to open up for DJ San (Fektive Records) and has since gone on to rock dance floors serving up his refreshing slice of uplifting melodic trance, driving progressive house, Tech-House and full on 4/4 percussive Techno. A pioneer of the harder and darker sound of the EDM Spectrum and a veteran of progressive and melodic trance sounds, Shubs has warped clubs such as SQUEEZE in Mumbai, FUGA in Bangalore and the hallowed ZANZIBAR in Goa. During the summer of 2008, Shubs managed to play a closing set for the legendary Dj Tiesto at Metropolis Nightclub, opened for Randy Boyer & Paul van Dyk at Cyrus Waterfront, and shared the stage with the worlds number one DJ - Armin van Buuren in Cleveland.

Before stepping up to this modern day approach like most DJs of the ‘new breed’, Shubs began DJing using ‘Virtual DJ’ on the PC before trying to get some Numark TTX1 turntables in 2002. That idea fell through, which was probably a blessing in disguise as this allowed him to proceed on to the almost industry standard CDJs.

An embracer of new technologies, Shubs can be heard masterfully cutting and fading his way through the latest tracks from Armin Van Burren, Markus Schulz and Jonas Steur through to new up and coming talents such as Kenneth Thomas, Chris Norman (Retrobyte) and Shawn Mitiska on the now ubiquitous Pioneer CDJ1000s and DJM 800 Mixer. As an aural Protégé of Sasha, Shubs has also expanded his repertoire to include ‘Ableton Live’ and was one of the first DJs to use this software whilst playing at SUBMERGE. Shubs introduced this to help compliment the trickery of the CDJs as a means of allowing him to execute live remixing, micro edits and dropping those all important mind numbing effects to get the dance floor melting.
