Prior Art was stitched together in between soundchecks, on empty highway stretches, and on spare couches covered with cat hair and dust. It follows a slower path than Gold Fools but reaches similar depths of dubby, hiss-laden pop. Exploring the boundaries of vibe and feel, it was inspired by the microphasing of minimalist composer William Basinski, the warped, playful beats of Actress and Bibio, and the various guises of mastermind Brian Eno. Printed on limited edition cassette tape, Prior Art contains reworkings of songs by Clams Casino and Twin Sister, as well as remixes by shape shifters Sun Glitters and Rimar, mixed with gooey ambient stretches and swirling electronic interludes.
