Having studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Barbican Centre holds special meaning to Mica. Her Sonic Journey is inspired by a personal walk around the Centre and its locale, drawing inspiration from the textures and shape of the Barbican, both inside and out, and will be a musical response to the functional yet unique architecture that makes up the Centre. Barbican Music commissioned Mica to create her Sonic Journey to tie in with two major events in 2011; the Barbican Gallery’s Laurie Anderson, Trisha Clark, Gordon Matta-Clark – Pioneers of the Downtown Scene, New York 1970 and a major celebration of the music of Steve Reich, Reverberations: The Influence of Steve Reich.
