At Sounds Outside the Lines, we believed there had to be a way to capture all of the tone, immediacy and groove of the original hardware in a software based plugin that didn’t resort to sound generated from digital algorithms but one based on professional recordings of the original machine.
We loved the 909 but we didn’t love the instability or limitations of dealing with vintage hardware in a modern studio. We took over a year analyzing and recording every sound of the original drum machine meticulously through high end outboard designed to capture the purity of an analog drum machine while adding a distinct coloration and punch. We made model after model until we were completely happy with the results and that we had a product that could completely replace the hardware in our own productions.
