About

Sophie tries to paint pictures and atmosphere with words and a delicately-plucked guitar. A sound which began in the conventional female singer-songwriter vein is developing into something more poignant and ethereal.

Having spent her last year at Cambridge exploring the university music scene, Sophie came home in June and has since thrown herself into the folk circles of London. Gigging relentlessly has brought her to the interesting point of struggling to find acoustic nights that she hasn’t played, or at least applied for.

It has also brought her increasing recognition in London, the highlight of which has been the invitation to contribute a track to Folkroom Records ‘Anthology Two’ compilation album of London’s finest folk acts. As well has achieving radio play on BBC 6 Music and BBC Introducing Berkshire, and playing live in session for Amazing Radio, Bob's Folk Show, Brooklands Radio and Shoreditch Radio, Sophie has recently begun to penetrate the blogosphere with attention from the likes of 'Thank Folk For That', ‘Just Music that I Like’ and ‘Flying With Anna’. Hard work seems to be paying off with exciting upcoming gigs at Sofar Sounds, and a support slot for Emily and the Woods.

Having recently signed to Folkroom Records, things are developing fast as Sophie works towards her debut EP to be released on the label in May. Now playing with electric guitarist Liam Hoflay of fellow Folkroom band Patch and the Giant, her sound is growing richer and becoming her own. The bass is increasing, electrics soaring and lyrics darkening. Watch this space for, hopefully, some exciting things to come.
