Rob St. John’s critically lauded debut album Weald was originally released on limited edition heavyweight vinyl, but it sold out so fast we felt we really should give it a fully-distributed release on CD as well.
As the original record was released back in the Winter of 2011, and as a thank you for the support Rob as an artist and we as a label have received from independent record shops throughout the country, we thought it would be nice to give people a little inducement to go out to shops and buy a copy of the album on CD now that it is available. This is a free remix compilation CD of (almost) all the songs from Rob’s critically acclaimed Weald album and will only be available with CD copies of Weald bought from independent record shops throughout the UK.
Rob himself has this to say: “Weald is a dense record: layer upon layer of sound. We thought that it would be interesting to ask a bunch of friends and collaborators to pick apart these strata, and to meld and mold the songs into something new. I think that a recording is never the 'final' version of a song, instead just a confluence of people, instruments and ideas in a particular space and time. Just as when we improvise live, it's exciting to see the songs reshaped and reimagined.”
