bio /

We just finished puffing a joint of low grade, blowing the smoke out the window, hoping that our parents wouldn't smell it. I was sitting at my desk, practicing my handstyle with markers that smelled so loudly they probably cancelled the reak of the schwag. My brother was sitting on the floor, probably eating chips and salsa, when he remarked "I bet when people walk by a wall that you tagged, they say "oh some jerk did that." I laughed and agreed and then it hit me like a linebacker falling from a skyscraper; I am some jerk. More particularly, somejerk.

In the years to follow, chasing the dual dream of graphic designer and electronic music producer, somejerk has found himself playing almost every role in "the scene" - whatever scene he was tied up with at the moment - helping to organize and promote some of the earlies dubstep events in Miami as well as IDM, DNB and other low end focused waveforms. From graphic designer to promoter to producer to beginner DJ, and now label owner, teacher and now a professional DJ, somejerk's imprint in the Miami (Future) Bass scene is a unique and pronounced as music music and intentions.

In 2010, recognition from the press solidified his position as one of the more forward moving producers in South Florida, being awarded the Miami New Times "Best New Electronica" producer for his self-released dubstep and garage influenced beats. Not one to be bound by lables such as genres, somejerk was soon producing what can only be called "tropical bass", experimenting with moombahton, reggae and hiphop tempos, with obvious jungle, drum and bass and breakcore influences.

In late 2011 somejerk began teaching Audio Producion at the Scratch Academy in Miami, exposing his sound and influence to a new spectrum of producers chasing similar dreams - to make music that will take them around the world. Utilizing his diverse range of experience as producer, promoter, designer, marketer and wanna-be-visionary, John has no limits in his musical perspective.
