Deep down I'm still an old blues rocker but I've always had prog, jazz and classical yearnings. Some years ago I put down the black SG, eBayed my Marshalls and broke away from the limitations of playing in bands. Now I can capture the sounds I've been hearing in my head for decades. I'm going through this metamorphosis at a time of life when the learning muscles are perhaps beginning to atrophy and it hasn't been easy. Never mind - the freedom to follow complexity or simplicity at will - to agonise down to the last detail or slap about with complete abandon is a blast of fresh air - very cold air sometimes - playing as solo is as naked as you can get without taking your clothes off.
