I’m not going to do this third person like everyone else. This site is all me, simple as that. My real name is Evan Chandler, born 1986 and I’m from Brisbane, Australia. I go by the DJ / Producer name Slynk. I play alot of different styles and produce alot of different kind of music but I guess I am most known for my funky-hiphop-bootleg-b-boy-breaks style productions. What about when im djing? Well shit, I play everything including but not limited to reggae, drum and bass, swing, rockabilly and of course a large dose of funky-hiphop-bootleg-b-boy-breaks. Basically just whole lot of awesome shit haha.
So why did I decide to become a dj/producer? Well, I’ve always been a big fan of music in general even when i was a little kid. My father and grandma both have a very large music collection and they were regularly playing music when i was around. My father bought me a keyboard and i took piano lessons for about a year. Then during school I took lessons in drum kit and used to go hang out at the drum circle with some mates playing djembe, a kind of bongo or whatever. As I got older I guess one thing led to another and I ended up in front of some turntables doing a baby scratch and that was it for me. It was an addiction. I bought some decks, laptops, soundcards, headphones, the whole bit. I’d throw some epic parties at my house which i’d dj at and eventually one of my housemates managed to hook me up with my first real gig. I guess my answer to the question is I just love music and I think everyone deserves to hear it, enjoy it, and love it as much as I do.
So people always ask me, where did you learn to dj/produce? Well my answer is, I taught myself. My interest in production started when I was about 12. I started making little songs, not very good ones haha but I was learning. Lots of trial and error was involved. DJing is only a fairly recent thing for me. I got my first real gig in 2006 playing at this small underground new york style cafe in brisbane. So I went there every friday night for about 2 years and djed music while people were eating. I kinda knew how to dj before I got this gig just by playing at house parties and stuff but this cafe was where I really experimented, playing with all kinds of styles of music, refining my skill, underground haha. It wasn’t till April 2008 that I was discovered by some local dj agencies. This is when everything started happening. I started playing gigs all around town, it was crazy.
Now I’m signed with Goodgroove and I’m releasing my debut EP and people are already hitting me up for gigs interstate and internationally which is like literally a dream come true :)
