As part of their weekly midnight movie showing, Pleasant Street Theaterrecently screened a film produced by Valley Resident Dan Cashman. The movie, entitled, Video Velveeda, will feature Cashman himself as well as highlights of the over thousands of hours of found VHS footage which Cashman collects and repurposes. Many of your may know Cashman as the Bearded half of the DJ duo, Purity Supreme. And while many of Purity Supreme's events have featured Cashman's video collage work, Friday's show will mark the filmmaker's debut to a "paying audience."
I had the opportunity recently to sit down with the artist and talk about why he does what he does as well as discuss some of the privacy issues involved with video collage. In the following interview, conducted at the Haymarket we discuss these things and more.
