At first, the idea of generating a 90 second audio biography crafted to shed light upon my personality and what is important to me seemed improbable at best, however, I was struck by an idea which has evolved into a satisfactory glimpse of who I am, and my artistic approach.

This track began with the recording of some dramatic dialogue between me and my two sons, capturing phrases that I thought might help provide an interesting context for my expression. I then gathered audio clips of everyday sounds around the house: keys, a deadbolt, the pull-chain of a lamp, an entry door opening and closing, footsteps, running water, ice cubes being dumped into a glass bowl and stirred, a microwave, a singing wineglass, a stainless steel mixing bowl being struck while water sloshed in it... several of these sounds appear in their recognizable forms to initially establish the scene. All of these sounds were then digitally processed to become the entirety of the percussive elements throughout, as well as to fashion an increasingly unusual atmosphere of background noises. A couple of acoustic guitar and piano tracks were recorded to provide a measure of musicality (if not normalcy), one guitar phrase plays backwards, and the madness was then mixed together with the addition of a brief statement which reveals more about me than if I were to ramble on for days.

I have found that creating music in the studio uses more of my total being than most other endeavors. My approach to composition and songwriting always begins with a curiosity and flows through a process of exploration to incorporate new techniques and methods, time signatures, genres and styles. The pathway is always unique. This track is an example of that explorative approach. This was my first time ever incorporating commonplace objects and everyday sounds into composition. This was also my first attempt at intentionally creating the imagery of a physical environment to any extent.

SoundCloud has not only given more purpose to my musical pursuits, it has enabled me to collaborate with some incredibly talented artists all over the world, and that is magic.

    ...anyhow, greetings ;)
