Need a gift for a gifted musician?
My name is Lamar Mackie, but everybody calls me Skuby Dubble Dee. I am an East Oakland, CA native "up and coming" Bay Area Artist. I became interested in music at a very young age favoring the Hip Hop genre. At age 6, I began composing & arranging my first beats using Fruityloops.
Though these beats sounded horrible to others, this is what sparked the love for music I have today. "Just knowing that I have something to do with music keeps me going, when you hear one of my songs, I made that beat, I wrote those lyrics, I engineered, mixed, mastered what you hear. Its one of the best feelings in the world." I started off rapping at Fruitvale Elementary, in East Oakland, I quickly made a name for myself with the younger & older freestyle rappers in the neighborhood.
"People used to tell me I had talent all the time, of corse back then I only rapped for fun with friends during and after school. Until one day, I came home from school and my older cousin was making beats in his room. I never seen anyone make a beat before, and it looked so easy. After hours of begging him to let me use his computer, I hopped on FL Studio, I think it was like number 3 or 4, and I started making the worst beat ever made in history."
"Yea it was that bad, I had no idea what I was doing, he showed me a few things and afters years of practice and half - a## beats, I am who I am today." Yes I started off a freestyle rapper in elementary school, and began my musical journey short after I learned how to make beats, and record vocals. "So I had my beat, I wrote my rap, now what? I think I began engineering around 6th grade. Everyone was rapping now, it was the thing to do at my school, but no one at my school had an actual recorded song."
"Thats when I got on the internet and found mixcraft, downloaded it, recorded a few crappy sounding songs and eventually came up with my first song and burned it on a cd. Everyone at school hyped my song out because I was the only kid at school who recorded one, I felt like a star, And ever since then I've been making music." Sicne those days My talent has grown dramatically, from beats, to lyrics, to engineering, mixing & mastering, I continue to grow and create quality music for all to enjoy.
