About
Seminal Music For Sophisticated People
As with many producers of the moment SJ’s involvement in music reaches back to some of his earliest memories, with a mixture of Mo-town & Soul through to early Synth Pop & Rock.
In the late 90’s with the guidance of older friends, early garage and dance music had been made available to him. This sparked a love of electronic music that would never be lost.
It wasn’t until the early 00’s that SJ had his first experience with a set of 1210’s, visiting his friends who’s brother had a set and a surplus amount of Hard House, and so the journey began. It didn’t take long for people to take notice of this young talent, and pretty soon he was DJing in some of the most exciting after clubs that Birmingham had to offer, playing along side the likes of Audio Fly & Paul Thomas. SJ realised that production was the way forward if he wanted to be taken seriously within the industry.
Today the diversity of SJ’s musical background can clearly be heard through his production techniques. A clever infusion of clean techno inspired sound design over mature and well-crafted groove beds, which nod to the classic Chicago House greats such as Todd Terry and Frankie Knuckles. A heavy use of percussion and smooth clean bass lines are often a feature, contrasting with the melodic intricately constructed breakdowns taking you on a seductive journey in the opposite direction, before thrusting back into the hard hitting grooves designed for the soul purpose of making you lose control.
With a recent move to one of the most forward thinking post production studios in Europe 2013 is set to be a commanding year for this young producer who will be at the top of his game very soon.
