Around late 2012 I was lucky enough to receive an endorsement from the amazing people at Darkglass Electronics. I had one of their Microtubes B7K overdrive preamps sent out to me and I was immediately blown away by it! So I decided to write a song in the same style as my band The Helix Nebula (www.facebook.com/thehelixnebula) to gauge how it would sound in our sort of music. Looking back it didn't really end up like us at all but I still dig it! This pedal can do everything!
I used it in "thin" mode with the attack switch boosted for all of the heavy sections. I pumped the drive on it to give it plenty of grit, ramped up the low end, then refined the other characteristics until I was happy. The end result gave me an fat, grinding tone that responded well to the aggressive attack of my fingers. In the softer section with just drums, bass and keys, I turned the blend dial way back to 0 and simply used it as a tasty analogue preamp. I couldn't be happier!
The bass used in this clip was a Schecter Stiletto Studio 6 string in Drop D with EMG 45HZ pickups, elixir medium gauge strings played fingerstyle.
