SILKY BASTARD (Karim Zarouala, 1993) is a dj and producer with a indescribable big heart for music. He started producing music at the age of fifteen. Not that surprising, because he is born with a feeling for melody and rhythm. Karim saw the light when years ago he was checking out a performance of a well known dj in a big club. The first time in a club, the lights, the music, the people, the stage and especially the feeling that he got from this moment was literally not to describe. Since then, he became Silky Bastard and his life as a dj and producer began.

HOW HE STARTED – THE MUSIC JOURNEY

Silky Bastard has a great variety in music. It started back in the days (2008) with house music from dj’s such as Kapuchon (Afrojack), Kenneth G, Benny Rodrigues, Nicky Romero and Bingo Players. When he played at Starbeach back in 2010, he discovered Techhouse. This gave SILKY BASTARD new possibilities. While searching for new Techhouse records, he also discovered Techno. From there on Silky Bastard saw the real light and began to, for his feeling, really understand music. Nowadays, he is being inspired by music of dj’s and producers such as Egbert, Secret Cinema, Florian Meindl, Adam Beyer, Ben Sims, Torsten Kanzler, Planetary Assault Systems, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Robert Hood, Oliver Schories, Melon, Industrialyzer, The Advent and a lot of different underground artists. For Silky Bastard things have changed if you look back to the point were he started. His music journey is developing every day. Today he understands his passion, he knows what he wants and he knows he will get there. Enjoying 'the way to' is something that he definitely keeps in mind while focussing on his dreams.

HIS OWN STYLE – THE MUSIC GENRE

Silky Bastard’s music genre is a combination of Techno, Minimal, Techhouse and House. Important to mention that Techno and Minimal are the main ingredients of his sound. 'SILKY' stands for the silky side; beautiful melodies, chords, deep vocals and feel good atmospheres. 'BASTARD' is the oposite side; darkness, heavy basses and industrial sounds. Silky Bastard uses as many time as possible to work with these two different styles in his studio. He is driven by his infinite passion and love for music. This perfectionist is determined to spread his sound into the entire world. Want to taste some? WHAT HE DOES – THE MUSIC SCENE

Silky Bastard is well-aware of his capability. Since his first show in Doornroosje/Merleyn (Nijmegen, april 2009), he is responsible for all of his work: bookings, marketing, photography, video, promotion, social media, design, and of course the production of his music. Besides that he does that all by his self he also loves to meet new and positive people. Silky Bastard thinks it is important to find the right balance between working very hard and relax very hard to gain inspiration and have progress. Hard work does pay off. Silky Bastard proves it with his achievements: more than 100 shows, two own party concepts, winner of more than 6 national and international dj/producer contests, over 29.000 friends on Hyves, more than 3.200 fans on Facebook, more than 800 likes on his Facebook fanpage, over 4.000 followers on Twitter and of course, Google is also familiar with Silky Bastard. He is going in the right direction, but he isn’t there yet. Therefore, there is plenty of ambition for the next couple of years.

WHAT HE HAS DONE – THE BIRGHT SIDE

This ambition makes Silky Bastard eager to achieve more. But he already achieved some beautiful things. He played at places like: 013 Tilburg, Matrixx Nijmegen, Beachclub Vroeger, Ushuaia Ibiza, Club Live, Doornroosje Nijmegen, Merleyn, Dock 154 Utrecht, Hall of Fame, Brothers Bunnik, Club Vie, Club Noa, Freshtival Festival, Summerdayz, Matrixx At The Park, The Gallery (..) In the summer of 2010, he gave his first live performance in a foreign land. It was at Starbeach, in the well-known place called Chersonissos (Crete, Greece). At Starbeach, Silky Bastard performed on several festivals, such as Lovestar, Beachflirt and TMF Totally Summer party. Because of this great success, Silky Bastard was asked to perform again in 2011. In that year he again gave act of presence at Beachflirt, Lovestar and the SlamFM Totally Summer party. At this moment, Silky Bastard still is the youngest dj ever who performed at Starbeach.

WHAT HE HAS DONE – MORE OF THE BIRGHT SIDE

In the summer of 2012, Silky Bastard was part of the first ‘Extrema Live DJ Roulette’. Back then, he gave a techno live act at XO Live/Extrema, from his bedroom. Later on, he participated in the PepsiKickInTheMix Remix contest, a contest in which everyone could send in a remix of the song Let’s Go (Calvin Harris ft. Ne-Yo). A professional jury with members of Sony Music, SlamFM, Pepsi, Red Urban and the SAE Institute in Amsterdam thought Silky Bastard was the best of the more than 20.000 remixes. With this victory, Silky Bastard was allowed to go on a partytrip to IBIZA where he meets Calvin Harris and AKON, goes to a DJ Academy and is VIP on the guest list from David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Avicii, Luciano, Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath and Wolfgang Gartner. This journey was an experience that can't be described in words. He was literally standing in touch with his goal and dream. Right in front of Richie Hawtin and Sven Vath who were giving an extraordinary performance in front of 4999 people and Mr. Silky Bastard himself.

The dreams of Silky Bastard are becoming reality, but there are plenty more to follow. He keeps chasing them, with only one goal: enjoying the ride and making them come true.
