About
And then it was time for Sibot…
Just before Oppi, Si release a track on Soundcloud called “Gamechanger”. A solid Sibot beat is always instantly catchy, but this track contained samples of street level thugs from The Wire (if you don’t know what The Wire is, go away) talking about how, “the game done changed”, and it was no secret that the track was a kind of commentary on the current state of the Electronica scene. You see guys like Sibot, Markus Wormstorm and Felix La Band, pioneered local Electronica in a way that was push-things-to-their-limits and always-do-something-fresh. And there is a general feeling that the Electronica that the kids follow nowadays has kind of just become by-the-numbers Glitch-Hop, side-chain Electro and chainsaw Dubstep. So the game done changed, right?
Nah, in the words of the noble Slim Charles, (mad props to the Alvinhator for reminding me of this) "Games the same, just got more fierce" thanks to the one and only Si. Coming on stage with an Iron-Man type lit-up emblem on his chest, he dropped some confident swag over the mic as the tension built with an ominous soundscape. And then he just fucked shit up proper. Wall-of-sound wet-yourself basslines, thug drumlines played live off of his samplers, synth-scratching squiggles and striking sound-designed soaring leads bamboozled the eyes and ears. People were screaming and leaping with, in some cases, Beatles-like applause. He played out his entire set, literally live off of his shrine of mountainous on-stage gear and swung from the rafters once it was all done. Long after the crowd's jet-loud applause echoed across the valley, the name Sibot resonated in whispers.
