"ShyBoy casts a fresh, intelligent spell over the indie pop landscape."
- THE HUFFINGTON POST
Jason Arnold, known by his stage name ShyBoy, is a singer, songwriter, producer and mashup artist. His new release - The Interstellar Travel Companion Mixtape - is a collection of mashups, remixes and new songs, including collaborations with robot koch, Black Molly, DJ Tripp and more. The collection riffs on his solo debut Water on Mars, described by The Huffington Post’s Xaque Gruber as an album that "makes a bold, tuneful impression on today's indie-pop landscape" and cited as "one of the year's smartest, not-to-be-missed debuts."
LA blog BuzzBands.LA notes ShyBoy's versatility, describing his sound as "wonderfully dramatic." The Monterey County Weekly describes ShyBoy’s music as "a cross-pollination of RJD2, DJ Shadow and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Arnold's understated vocals quickly erupt into full-blown soulful crooning that's irresistible for eardrums.”
Water on Mars was produced by Mark Nubar and ShyBoy in Hollywood, CA and features co-writes with noteworthy songwriters such as Allee Willis, Wendy Waldman and more. "Bird in Flight" and a cover of Nik Kershaw’s 80s classic "Wouldn’t It Be Good" - the lead singles from the collection - are both featured in music videos directed by award-winning filmmaker Michael Bodie and produced by Loretta Ramos (associate producer on Bryan Fuller's NBC series Hannibal).
In support of the LP launch, ShyBoy performed a series of shows, including a headliner spot at the 4th annual Carmel Art & Film Festival, the 2nd annual CBGB Festival in NYC and a January 2014 residency at The Hotel Café in Los Angeles (with his live band consisting of Angela Momiyama on bass, Elizabeth Goodfellow on drums and Nubar on piano). The week of the album’s release, the HLN/CNN show Raising America (with Kyra Phillips) picked up the Water on Mars track "When I Close My Eyes" as its theme song.
Winner of the Hollywood Music In Media Award for Best Male Vocal (for his rendition of the Donna Summer hit "On The Radio”), ShyBoy has had numerous placements in hit TV shows, films and video games including ABC's Super Fun Night, SyFy's Warehouse 13, CW's America's Next Top Model and Capcom's multi-platinum game Devil May Cry 4 (for which he performed the end title). He also wrote and produced five original singles with RuPaul, all released by World of Wonder and featured on RuPaul's Drag Race (VH1/Logo).
ShyBoy has shared the stage with performers such as Amanda Palmer, Griffin House, Meiko and Bell X1 and has appeared on numerous radio shows and web series, including Stripped Down Live with Curt Smith (of Tears for Fears). He is a resident DJ and vocalist at A Plus D’s club Bootie at The Echoplex in Los Angeles. Aside from producing numerous popular mashups and mashup concept albums, ShyBoy has also done remixes for artists such as Donna Summer, Beyoncé & Whitney Houston.
As lead singer for the band Hypnogaja, ShyBoy toured throughout Canada and the U.S. (including SXSW in Austin, Texas), garnering a following of over one million people on Twitter. He co-wrote/produced numerous recordings with Hypnogaja, including the concept LP Truth Decay (rated 9 out of 10 stars by Outburn magazine, which described it as "an expertly crafted album”). His vocal from the Truth Decay‘s "Welcome to the Future" was remixed by DJs Kristina Sky, Randy Boyer, Darude, Menno de Jong and numerous others and released on the EnMass Music label. DJ Judge Jules premiered the song on BBC Radio 1.
