I am a singer-songwriter as well as a blogger -- I helm a popular blog about songwriting at www.songwritingscene.com. I'm a huge fan of songs that are also stories -- and the best ones are always those that, even if they aren't 100% true, spring from the community, experiences and background of the songwriter. Think "Making Pies" by Patty Griffin, or "Eleanor Rigby" by The Beatles, even "Don't Stand So Close To Me" by The Police. To that end, I propose the Story Song Project -- where songwriters from around the world are invited to share their raw recordings on SoundCloud of original songs inspired by weekly songwriting prompts. I have led a variety of songwriting challenges on my blog over the past couple of years, which have birthed some wonderful songs about love, summer, the days of the week and even cheese. The Story Song would hopefully be the next level of this community-based songwriting project, adding new tuneful tales to the fabric of the universe -- melodic slices of life from every corner of the globe.
