Shanghai was formed by the two musicians/producers Nicolai Kornerup and Niels Brandt in early 2010.
At first they claimed their genre to be a style called "arabesque pop", but now the duo are leaning towards the term "mystical pop".
"Most things in life are unknown and mysterious, so that's where our interests lie." , they say.
Their first single "Smoke and Mirrors" got picked up by the two radio dj's Le Gammeltoft and the late Kjeld Tolstrup before it was even released. They then signed with Gammeltoft/Tolstrup's label Sound of Copenhagen and released their first Ep "The Priest" on May 23rd, 2011.
Shanghai are hugely influenced by the songwriting and melody making of music that predates the latest millennium mark. Their sound is ambient and ambitious with a touch of theatre and drama.
