Music for the wedding of Jeffery and Ashley: http://shamurai.tumblr.com/post/7566222074/river-wedding
Ever plan a wedding? To me, the thought seems thrilling and nightmarish. Early last year, my friend Jeffery (one of the first friends I made upon moving to California 5 years ago) and his bride-to-be began planning their wedding. They approached Michael Nathanson and myself and asked us to play at their wedding. Mike and I are guitarists of somewhat different breeds but Jeffery always enjoyed the groove of us jamming away whenever we would meet up (as did we).
So, they asked us to play at the wedding; you know, we thought like throw a song out at the reception or something. But, in actuality, Jeffery and Ashley were asking us to play the wedding ceremony in its entirety. On top of that, this was the only instruction we were given. We had almost no other guidelines for what they wanted or what to do. After many requests, they handed us a Dropbox folder of some songs they both liked so we could get a feel for things. And so we got to it; we began selecting songs we liked and making two instrument arrangements (armed with the additional associate producer help of Mike's wife Aisha which kept us at bay and on two acoustics...trust me, personally I wanted a stack of Vox AC30s). And so, this begins the story of music for a River Wedding on the St. Paul banks of the northern Mississippi.
