About
In the early 90’s Shannon Shalako made a name for himself DJing around the northeast United States at countless rave massives, underground events, and high-profile night clubs. An obsessive record collector, he developed a repertoire that was as wide as it was deep; playing sets of house, techno, or trance with equal finesse. He quickly mastered three turntables and by the mid-nineties was traveling all over North America for gigs and working as record buyer for two of the top dance music shops in the city.
In 1997 he created Redlight Productions to organize his own events in Boston. Redlight soon became synonymous with the best vibe in the city; the old-school style warehouse parties repeatedly drawing more than 600 people with only a week’s word-of-mouth promotion. That same year he took a residency at an Irish pub and within a few months built it into what was widely regarded as the best night for underground house and techno in New England. Wednesdays at The Phoenix Landing ran for seven and a half years, featured a star-studded list of guests on par with the finest clubs in the world, and established The Phoenix Landing as it continues to be 15 years later, the cultural center of underground dance music in Boston. The event was an institution, the habitual destination for generations of groove junkies, and an inspiration for many event promoters.
In 2000 Shalako began making frequent trips to Europe for DJ work where he has performed at many notable events, including Sven Vath’s legendary Cocoon Club at U60311 in Frankfurt. Later he moved to Munich and spent a year in the studio producing original material. In 2004 the seeds of this work blossomed, with tracks released on Circle Music (Germany) and Atlas Records (Spain). Both have been well received; "Overseas" scored 6/6 in Germany’s top magazines Raveline and De:Bug, while "Speartips" received airplay from John Peel, the revered BBC Radio 1 DJ, just before his passing.
Over the years Shannon has performed alongside many house and techno luminaries; Orbital, Richie Hawtin, John Aquaviva, Derrick Carter, Doc Martin, Cajmere, DJ Hell, The Advent, Deep Dish, Chris Liebing, Christian Smith, Cari Lekebusch, Oliver Ho, Gaetano Parisio, Marco Carola, Steve Bug, Eddie Richards, CJ Bolland, Woody McBride, Heiko Laux, Abe Duque, Jon Selway, Billy Nasty, Alexi Delano, and Funk D’Void, to name a few.
