Meet Serotonin Thieves, the London based DJ/producer & label owning duo consisting of Scott & Ryan Serotonin.
Having been at the forefront of the tech house scene in recent times, with their unique sound featuring groove heavy percussion, sub bass & often mixed with glitch vocals & other sonic surprises, it’s easy to think of them as a recent invention, which is not the case.
After a chance meeting in the Caribbean in 2002, they bonded over a shared passion for dance music and began early experiments into creating a DJ duo. After spending a number of years DJing on London’s party scene and clocking up many studio hours honing their sound, the duo’s output went largely unnoticed.
Skip forward 5 years and Radio 1 legend Pete Tong selects one of their tracks for his ‘Fast Trax’ show, the same show that had just discovered a then unknown Swedish producer called Avicii. After much work and hard graft, their productions began catching the attention of some of the most forward thinking tastemaker DJ’s on the planet: Richie Hawtin, Umek, Claude VonStroke & Loco Dice being early supporters. They commenced outings on labels including: Natura Viva, Pete Tong's Bedroom Bedlam, Emotive Sounds, Bamboo Music, Recovery Tech and many others.
In January 2011, came the launch of their home label, Serotonin Digital. It didn’t take long before they began releasing standout productions by some of the hottest producers Worldwide: David Herrero, Groovebox, Jaceo, Wade, Tripmastaz, My Digital Enemy, Angel Stoxx, Kyle Watson, Leisuregroove (Hotfingers/303 Lovers), Marcella (Toolroom/Cr2), Lucio Spain (Get Physical/Witty Tunes) and many others, alongside some of the hottest new production talent.
With their sound now charting highly on download stores such as Beatport, Traxsource and Trackitdown, their music found it’s way onto the airwaves of Radio 1, Kiss FM, Capital FM, Galaxy, Ibiza Global Radio, BNL & Radio 538 (Netherlands) with radio play coming in from an unusual cross section of DJ’s from Stephan Bodzin to Tiesto. The duo themselves were asked to host a show on London’s Passion FM, which now broadcasts every Sunday.
As the demand for Serotonin Thieves sound has mounted, so have the inevitable requests to DJ at the best clubs across the globe. From gigs at seminal London clubs Ministry of Sound and Egg, to elaborate nights in Ibiza, Miami & a residency in Berlin, clubbers across the World have found themselves under their hypnotic spell.
Perhaps the duo explain their sound best, “Our music aims to exit the stresses of life. It's a call to the masses to leave their existence behind. It's about the classic drama of tension & release. It's time to forget everything you have held as reality. The beat will obscure it. Our sound is that of a celebration. Movement. We imagine the World moving to one beat. This is where we exist. Our music aspires to capture moments like these.”
