It all started when Seb Fauteux, aka Sébastien Fauteux, was 5 years old and began dancing to Pink Floyd, David Bowie and Imagination. This passion for dance and music was already shaping his artistic universe. Things really kicked off when he got his first record store job. That was the perfect setting to immerse himself deeply in the vast spectrum offered by music, from classical to pop, joining the dots with bits of jazz and world beat. But what about electronic music? He had to wait until 1995 to experience it to the fullest, while attending various rave parties.
From all those past influences, quoting rap, doop-wop, soul, new wave, disco and classic house, Seb started building his own style around a unique element : the groove. Like few others, he manages to tastefully blend Detroit, New York, Chicago and Tokyo sounds alongside the finest german, british and scandinavian ones. His record box is packed with a vast array of styles, like techno, dub, nu-jazz, deep house, minimal, tribal and progressive. That’s what HOUSE MUSIC means to Seb Fauteux; a simple and wise groove that makes you move, with a typically underground artistic edge.
Once done with university, Seb founded in 2007 Fizz Factory with partners FFT, mParadis and Max Reynold’s. Fizz Factory is an artistic production company which promotes arts and technologies through electronic music. Since then, his acts as DJ and promoter of the successful Fizz Factory Friday Night at Salon Daomé in Montreal.
Following the success of those events, Seb and Max started the weekly event Beat Boutique, held every Sunday, still at infamous Salon Daomé. Once again focussed on grooves and smiles, this night gives Seb the opportunity to dig through his wax collection and to pick up tracks he wouldn’t be able to play in another context.
Nowadays, Seb is offered more gigs outside Montreal, which gives him the chance to travel and please crowds with his ecclectic yet cohesive musical selection, either at Piknic Electronik, in Quebec city or Ottawa.
He also shared the decks with many of the world’s greatest artists, like Efdemin, Paul Ritch, Till von Sein, Fred Everything, Phonique, Vincenzo, Damian Lazarus, Konrad Black, Kruse & Nuernberg, Stimming, Shur-I-Kan, Tigerskin, Trus’me, Will Saul, Quantic Jeremy Ellis, Pete Moss, Justin Long, etc.
Now in 2010, Seb Fauteux spends more time than ever in the studio with his Fizz Factory partners and friends. Next year should be the right time for him to release his own productions and collaborations with fellow artists.
While waiting for this music to come out, meet Seb Fauteux on the dance floor and travel with him through his refreshing and fulfilling universe, where pleasure and simplicity reign as masters!
