Act One of “The Tales of Hoffmann” concludes with a pretty waltz that turns dangerous when Hoffmann’s beloved, the mechanical doll Olympia, spins out of control. In 2005 Dean Williamson conducted Steven Cole, Doug Jones, Vinson Cole Harolyn Blackwell, and the chorus and orchestra of Seattle Opera. Film still from Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis,” a source of inspiration to Seattle Opera's design team when they created our Olympia.
