Margaret Jane Wray sings Sieglinde in “Die Walküre” and the Third Norn in “Götterdämmerung” at Seattle Opera. A victim of terrible abuse, Sieglinde explains her agony as she shuns her brother and lover Siegmund: “When we embraced, and I knew such sweet pleasure…I loved you with all my being, so completely did you arouse my love…And as such sacred rapture was mine, penetrating my mind and soul, I was ashamed, seized with dread, for I have obeyed another man; I have held another without love. Let me flee, I am cursed. I am vile, unworthy. I must leave you, my pure lover. I may never belong to my hero. I bring shame upon my brother, my friend.” Asher Fisch conducts the orchestra of Seattle Opera.
