Italian soprano Nuccia Focile takes on the tour de force role of the Woman in “La Voix Humaine” at Seattle Opera in May 2013. Focile has previously sung Tatyana in Eugene Onegin, Mimì in La bohème, Nedda in Pagliacci, Iphigénie in Iphigénie en Tauride, and Violetta in La traviata for the company.
As Nedda in Pagliacci she sang “Stridono lassù,” remembering a song her mother used to sing to her saluting the freedom of the birds, who can “wander the roads of heaven, follow a fantasy, and disappear amid golden clouds.” Dean Williamson conducts the orchestra of Seattle Opera.
