Soprano Robin Follman makes her Seattle Opera debut as the Monitor in “Suor Angelica,” which plays through May 18, 2013.
In this passage, the customarily severe Monitor—whose duty it is to administer penances to the nuns for minor infractions such as arriving late to chapel, causing giggles, or smuggling roses into service beneath a habit—encourages the nuns to enjoy a brief period of recreation.
