I think it needs a little BASS to accentuate the synths. love the piano for sure. I really like intesity of the track a lot. take care.

The second draft of this song I composed in Logic. Sounds a lot better to me, I added a lot more bass to the equation. Tell me what you think! Thanks! Oh and another thing! Sorry for that loud scary noise at the end! I don't know, that got there when I uploaded it.- Ahhh ROBOTS! Artwork

dude really feelin the bass, this is a cool song. lots of different elements to it, glitchy but varied drums and sounds to go with the evil, slowly rolling bass. very cool

Superb, will you be adding anything to this?? It sounds really great as it is now, enjoyed listening and bouncing to this!
- scalamanderr on February 26, 2009 23:37
@Romart: Ahh yes! Please tell me anything to add or take away, this is still a WIP. Thank you romart!
-
@scalamanderr: Maybe some melodic synth line, unaffected by the gating and glitch, just a pure synth line floating over the rest of the track, maybe fading in and out over different sections? I don't know if it needs it as its already excellent but maybe worth trying!
-
@Romart: the synth line is a great idea! something quite mellow and almost textural though, like on the track Siren by Seven... that kind of floaty, eery melody line... worth listening to for some inspiration! would just give the song a crescendo... and just add a little more structure to it

A work in progress i'm starting. Sounds sick so far in my opinion. The bridge (1.56ish) is my favorite part. My first dubstep! Please tell me how to improve on this! And how to make dubstep, dubstep! It's mildly quiet because I uploaded it before and it clipped all over the place, so I normalized... This is one bad ass huge nice tune man, i'm very amazed. Love how it flows all together, it's like a perfect endless jamsession. Are you gonna work this out as one song or work out several parts? big up
- scalamanderr on March 12, 2009 00:03
@voutloos: Ohh not entirely sure yet. I think I want to at least keep it going as a jamsession type thing, as you say, but theres definitely some parts i'd like to take out and other parts i'd like to add. Thanks though!

A DnB track I did in Live 7. Super fun doing these things, although you kind of get lost when you make them, who knew it was going to end up being 20 minutes long? I just did it one pass, no editing after it was done, if you're familiar with Live at all. Tell me what you think! :):)Mantarays [1] Uploaded by scalamanderr Start following Send a message on December 28, 2008 04:21

this is yet another fantastic idea sir! a thought: perhaps the beat elements should come a bit forward in the mix to pack extra punch? that synth is so powerfully kick ass that a punchier bed of beat would be a brown note affair ;)
- scalamanderr on December 31, 2008 04:12
@Mr. Squirrel: Ah, a great suggestion, thank you! Might I ask, are you listening to this through a decent sub? Does it hit?
- Mr. Squirrel on December 31, 2008 19:04
@scalamanderr: i don't have a really powerful sub running, but i do have one running and i'm getting a soft kick response and a good round bass response. the kick isn't really punching down through the bass tones forcefully though at least not with my set up...
- shavingronaldscar on January 01, 2009 22:30
@Mr. Squirrel: I like to place my more electronic kicks around 100-120 Hz, that way they punch really through. then, some acoustic kicks with a touch of track delay to give it that warm bass response. "new york compression", or "double compression" also really helps. in addition to compressing the individual tracks, route them through send channels with hard compression and tighter attack values. that way, you get your punch off of the sends, and your richer textures from the tracks. really solid track btw! love that sine bass.
- scalamanderr on January 02, 2009 02:44
@Mr. Squirrel: I'm just glad theres something, I do almost everything in headphones then bring it to my friends house and listen to it in his powered 10.
- Mr. Squirrel on January 02, 2009 02:57
@scalamanderr: as do i. i am either headphones or craptastic monitors until i take it up to my roommate's band's PA system and let it rip when he's not around. word up to shavingronaldscar for some fantastic advice though, i'm going to tweak somethings based upon his learned processes myself. Not to shift focus though mate, this track is really kick ass and unique! very interested to see where it goes and how it gets on...

great sub bass rumble!
- scalamanderr on December 31, 2008 04:19
@Mr. Squirrel: Ah, for some reason the hit hat makes a really funny lower noise when the bass is hitting, do you know of how to fix this? Much appreciated!
- shavingronaldscar on January 01, 2009 22:34
@scalamanderr: worst case scenario, resample your hat lines as an audio track and clip out the peaks manually.

Really like the hat work in this - although I feel those strings could have more mid-end to them?
- scalamanderr on December 29, 2008 04:56
@Legend4ry: Thanks. I split the loop into 2 tracks and put a bandpass on one to get that higher treble sound, and the other one is just regular, I think I might turn up the mid! Thanks for your input!

reverb on the snare... i know i'm bias because it's one of my guilty pleasures but it would really add some depth.
