About
1996...
My eyes were opened to the possibilities, and to a new sense of culture. I was exposed to a powerful emotive
form of expression. Amazingly this came in the form of a music shareware CD archive which I picked up at a
swapmeet that forever changed my life.
At the time seeking new ways to approach composing and hard disk recording I discovered the 'Demoscene' and most importantly, 'Trackers' those who would spend countless
hours sampling and arranging in various styles from all over the world exposing their art over BBS and later internet.
This lead me to the most important piece of software i have ever used... Fasttracker 2, a self contained DOS
based tracker that broke the boundries of my imagination, sifting through mountains of .MOD .S3m and
.XM files. I listened to the underground sounds and hearing 'true' Techno, Trance and Hardcore for the
first time, inspiring me beyond measure I began to collate my own sounds and samples and began to arrange
my own tracks.
After hooking up with local radio host Col Hamilton of "Critical Bass' and local producer Dave Hanson 'Fluffy
Bagel' my direction became clearer. In 1999 i went to my first big rave in Melbourne, 'Every
Picture Tells a Story 19', and many more raves & club nights for myself would follow.
Following the flow of technology this lead me to MIDI, samplers & synth's also finding new friends in my area
that had the same passion. In 2001 I began DJ'ing at the local clubs and often slipping in some non-commercial
underground dance music, which often got me into trouble but also attracted a growing crew of
friends & followers.
This led me to hosting my own event, 'TURBO' which was strictly an underground dance only affair with local
DJ's and some from Melbourne with great success. Many TURBO sequals followed along with some all night
parties of disclosed locations.
In recent years I have teamed up with Psyboags under the guise "Phrase & Effect" writing tunes
and also performing live at psytrance events with Jesse Eckberg under the alias "Xantech" (*pronounced 'Zahntesh').
...I love the music, I love the energy, I love the freaks :-P
