Shay DeGrandis gave me a cassette a few weeks ago. The spine read, "Studs reading Algren" so I instantly perked up. She happened on it amongst the effects of Robert Loescher, who's estate she administrates. The cassette contains recordings of Studs Terkel reading Nelson Algren's short story, "How the Devil Came Down Division Street", followed by some commentary from Algren himself, then rounded out by Terkel's take on "Chicago: City on the Make." There isn't much commentary from Terkel but I'm assuming that these readings were done for his long-running radio show. If anyone has more information on any of this, don't hesitate to drop me a line. (part 1 of 2)
