In January at the request of the U.S. Department of Labor, Salary.com agreed to take the unprecedented step of allowing a group of software developers access to our most prized possession -- our salary data. The federal government was running a contest called the Equal Pay App Challenge, which sought to find a way to highlight the existing wage gap between men and women.
Three months later, a group of graduate students from Carnegie Mellon University have developed an application and a website that uses our data in collaboration with publicly available salaries, that does just that. They won one of the contest's grand prizes, and we talk to them about the app and the gender pay gap in general this week on Salary Talk.
