With an unbroken belief in rock music as well as its musical
progress, Phil de Gap and Ahoi Boi swapped their guitars for
synthesizers, laptops and controllers. Inspired by chip sounds
of the 80s and the energetic French DJ culture a new era of
Byterock was started.
It was in 2008 when the well-known electro band Digitalism
had a MySpace remix contest for their song „Taken Away“ that
ULTRNX first called attention to themselves with their remix
soon standing out as winner.
Numerous remix jobs for acts such as Mikroboy, Junior Caldera
feat. Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Bobo In White Wooden Houses, True
Pseudo, aUtOdiDakT and Plemo & Rampue followed. Still,
they constantly experimented with their own sound. They keep
attracting international interest with their driving techno beats
and that certain French touch. Among others this earned them
a nomination for „URB Magazine’s Next 100” and a top ranking
in the Beatport charts. ULTRNX even became a YouTube
phenomenon when their remix of A.G. Trio’s “Replay” was used
as the unofficial soundtrack for an international YouTube dance
battle.
After having left behind euphoric and sweaty crowds
at numerous gigs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland
ULTRNX then concentrated on finishing their first own EP. It
was supposed to represent everything Phil de Gap and Ahoi
Boi stand for: an understanding of harmonic melodies and
necessary musical rigor. The mutuality of aggression and
euphoria. The lowest common denominator of rock, pop, techno
and hip hop. The fusion of man and machine.
“The Byterockin’ EP” consists of the five tracks “She”, “Rockstr”,
“Inner November”, “Believe” and “Stormlight”. Be prepared
for a trail of underground club crowds that were being bathed
in sweat as well as euphoric stadium raves. With the help of
microsampling, filter sounds, rocking grooves, drum pads and
a talkbox, ULTRNX manage to create their very own sound that
wins over people from a wide range of music scenes. So it’s
only natural that Phil de Gap and Ahoi Boi are released on THE
renowned label of the moment for electronic music in Germany:
the Hamburg-based label Audiolith Records that has already
signed acts such as Frittenbude, Egotronic and Bratze.
With the help of their colleagues from Saint Pauli, GhettoSexXx
and the Austrian A.G. Trio, each of whom contributed to “The
Byterockin EP” with a remix of “Rockstr”, ULTRNX are sure
going to win over fans, foes and fanzines from all over the
world.
