@Seth Willick:I didn't see this until now! I write all the electric bass parts on a bass guitar, I then record those parts with a live bass and if necessary will then quantize the bass part and lay a very quiet part over the top of it with a synthesized sound to give it some more depth (usually a few sawtooth oscillators with a slight chorus).
In this case however, I recorded the guitar through a DI and then stuck some amp sim's on it and so on :)
