@Bong: What can I say... I love my Old Skool :)

    3. chevthewizard on October 19, 2008 16:27

@RufusWhite: think the organ could be more 'in your face' / distorted to make it a bit more modern sounding

very nice stuff here.... love that voice sample

    2. RufusWhite on October 19, 2008 16:49

@chevthewizard: The original sample is taken from the Arethra Franklin track of the same name, if you're wondering :)

like the track man. drums bass and percussion production is top notch, sounds really good. not too keen on some of the old school type sounds but guess that's personal preference. nice work.

    2. RufusWhite on October 19, 2008 16:48

@chevthewizard: Cheers for the comments mate - I was already thinking that the organ needs bringing out of the mix, but I think you're right, a little distortion and perhaps bitcrushing (like the vocal) would definitely give it a bit more energy, as I think the organ is the only part that's lacking in this department, much as I love it lol :)

@Steven Chamberlain: cheers man, still a bit of work to do on this one - anything you'd change about it while I've got it on the chopping block?

    3. Steven Chamberlain on November 17, 2009 23:59

@RufusWhite: push those hats back a bit..rework the mid sound

    4. Steven Chamberlain on November 18, 2009 00:01

@Steven Chamberlain: still something about this sound thats - drawing me. - . would you let me do a Re-mix ..?.

    5. RufusWhite on November 18, 2009 00:11

@Steven Chamberlain: cheers, yeah I'll have a play about with that - I'm monitoring on a home hi-fi system at the moment, which has a terrible image for mastering, so I'll definitely take that under advisement!

@Steven Chamberlain: Sure, would be interesting to see what someone else could do with this - I just wanted something I could stick into my sets for a bit of a cheeky 60's moment :) PM me and tell me which parts you're after.

some nice ideas - i would bring the main vocal hook in a little earlier maybe in the first breakdown

Not sure the snare fits - sounds a bit too 80's for the rest of the track...

Funky 303 Soul Dark

Still needs levelling and mastering, but it's getting there :)

Made entirely in Ableton Live 7 - mostly with the bundled effects and instruments, with a little help from:
Rob Papen - Predator (The 303 sound & sub-bass)
dBlue - Glitch: One of my favorite effects at the moment, takes a bit of tweaking to get some predictable results, but very powerful :)
CamelSPACE: Great for bitcrushing and mangling :)
