Rufus started DJing at the age of 14, and gained notoriety after starting his "Ruforia" podcast - a mix of house music old and new, which showcased Rufus' love for anything House, and was so popular it reached #3 in the iTunes music podcast charts, and his mixes are regularly played on Australian radio station ClubbersRadio.com.
After 5 years of being a resident DJ in Ibiza, Rufus is now turning his hand to producing tracks that mirror his DJing style: Funky, Chunky, Quirky, Dirty, but always danceable!
I'll be honest with you, me and the 80's don't like each other, but you did a good job with this, keep it up :)
Overall a nice deep little groove - can't really tell you much about the levels as I'm just listening on laptop speaks at the moment, but I'll have a listen on the proper ones later on, and see what it sounds like. Nice work :)
More tension/release needed here I reckon
this breakdown could have been a little bit shorter - save the real tease for later :)
Even though it's a pretty simple track, the rhythm elements keep things interesting :)
@Steven Chamberlain: Sure, I'll render out some loops tomorrow night and send them over :)
@Steven Chamberlain: Sure, would be interesting to see what someone else could do with this - I just wanted something I could stick into my sets for a bit of a cheeky 60's moment :) PM me and tell me which parts you're after.
@Steven Chamberlain: cheers, yeah I'll have a play about with that - I'm monitoring on a home hi-fi system at the moment, which has a terrible image for mastering, so I'll definitely take that under advisement!

I tried having a mess around with this vocal myself once, but got too anal about warping it, maybe I should have left it a bit more free, it's definitely working for you. Having said that, I kinda feel like you haven't done much with it to tie it down to this mix - maybe a couple of loops or a bit of delay here and there would make it fit better? Overall though I really like where you're going with this :)
Fantastic - been looking for a deeper mix of this for a while now, I have a feeling this might become my go-to "fine day" remix. Very nice :)
@Steven Chamberlain: cheers man, still a bit of work to do on this one - anything you'd change about it while I've got it on the chopping block?
nice chilled track, I like it a lot!
didn't seem like there was as much energy here as the 1st drop - I'd let it all out here!
I kinda wanted a bit more here
yeaaahH!
like the crowd atmosphere, it fills it out a bit
kick could do with a little more RuH!
Loving it! Loving the jazzy, jackin' house at the moment, so this is right up my alley just now :) Let me know if I can grab a copy, or if you're releasing it - would love to play this out :)
Really nice bounciness to this track, the only thing I would say is bring out the clanks a little more to stop it from getting too stale, but otherwise really like it :)
Liking the funkiness here :)
Maybe the shaker could be a little more lively here

I'd boost the high end a little bit, sounds like it's just a little too far back in the mix.
Love these little bongos :)
Nice edit, I'd be tempted to beef up the drums a little more, but I've downloaded, I'll give it a play out and see how it goes down :)
@starkaudio: Cheers man, I can't wait for the summer to get here so I can play it out :)
@starkaudio: yeah, I need to have a fiddle with that... it's the only part of the piece I didn't make myself, so might be tricky to fix. Think I might have to melodyme it or something.
@starkaudio: take a look at the YouTube video I linked to in the track description, it's hilarious :)
Well done, you've got your drums sounding much more level in this one :)
Finally! Someone not doing the same old shiznit I've heard a million times on the cloud! This is really nice, and would be great for the first couple of hours of my sets, I'd love a copy if that's cool :)
@DavetheBassGuy: :D
This is by far my favorite track of yours mate - absolutely beautiful, it's like Lemon Jelly and Zero 7 had babies together :)
Aside from the reverb, the only other thing I'd suggest to try is a couple of female vocal snippets (just talking, not singing) in the background, I think that could really work well :) It's already amazing as it is though :)
Just need a little bit more reverb here to make the notes flow a bit better
Are these strings sampled? They sound great!
I love this lo-fi bit here, and the strings. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy :)
@Danny Lee: No worries mate, I'm in the same boat, been producing about the same time as you, maybe a little bit longer. The best thing to do is just keep up with the advice on forums like ALDJ, and read as much as you can about mastering. For me this is still the hardest and most frustrating thing about making music, but you're obviously motivated and finishing tracks, which is great. I start probably 20x more tracks than I ever finish, just because I lose interest when it comes to the mixdown/mastering stage!
Again though, just a bit too over the top with the kick, drums are really hard, I still have a lot of problems with them, so take my advice with a pinch of salt, but I think you just need to EQ out the sub-bass (below about 100hz), and you'll be able to bring out the rest of the track better without it sounding so overpowered by the kick. It will also allow you to bring your bass out a lot more without it sounding muddy, and at the same time stop the risk of blowing everyone's speakers (and eardrums)
Nice and dark, I like it!
