I was one of those "1,500" back in the 1980's at Pine Knob outside of Detroit. 5th frickin' row and I went by myself. It was such a personal experience to see him with the mystery still intact. Before the internet. Just the Rolling Stones interviews. So there he was, Roger Waters, Pink, 20 feet away. Amazing. Saw Floyd a month later. Still great, but a much different experience. More a spectacle than a performance.

@kjegardner: Your comment shouldn't be taken to mean that Stern isn't a skilled interviewer, however. He is. But yes it is clear they are acquainted.

If you listen to the interview, Howard and Roger travel in the same circle of friends. They obviously know each other. It's not hard to interview a friend and get them to open up about things they don't tell strangers during routine interviews. Roger was just relaxed and willing to talk, but it's only because he was talking to someone he was comfortable around - not because Howard is a skilled interviewer.

I've always wanted to be able to provide confirmation to doubters that Waters wasn't against teachers or education in general, here it is. To hear him say he no longer has ill will towards the rest of Floyd is the second most important element of this interview.

you people are idiots,,howard stern pushes buttons,,it what he does,,do any of you know howard stern personally,,,no,,you only know him from his show,,,its a show,,,its about ratings,,its not about being a kind hearted gentleman...when he says fuck those other guys it sounds pretty sarcastic to me,,,but then again i'm a sarcastic prick,,,its refreshing to hear someone talking to roger about real life shit,,not just about the wall and his tour,,,good for howard stern for being an in depth professional interviewer...and howard is right,,roger and david did hate each other up until about a year ago...every other interviewer is a pussy and intimidated but howard is not afraid to get roger to open up about the truth.....people are morons

@keithhandy I couldn't agree with you more. Not sure why everyone is so upset because Roger spoke on a personal level. Every interview I have heard or read with Roger in the past year has been the same, with the opening question "So tell me what made you want to tour The Wall again?" He even blantly dodges the question by saying "It's on the fucking website". This interview seemed more like a conversation as if Roger was talking to a good friend and cracking jokes. It was nice to hear about how he wants to take his children to visit his Father's and Grand Father's memorial, and great to see how Roger doesn't take himself as serious as he did 20 plus years ago. I thought Stern did a great job, and hope he has Roger back on the show again.

What are you people? Vultures? How much do you exactly care about whether Roger has used acid or not? Does it fucking matter so much?Getting an orgasm while listening to Roger Waters scream on an interview is at least sick. I think somebody's missing the forest for its trees... Some of you so-called "Floyd fans" are so eagerly waiting, closely observing your idols, waiting for that spicy piece of info. This is NOT what the Floyd used to stand for. And, yes, Howard stern IS a complete asshole. But he's doing exactly what he was sent to do.
I came here to listen to Waters speak about his musical conceptions and what I see is gossip between an asshole, a decorative potiche and a genius.

@keithhandy: Yep, agreed. People surprised that Howard Stern is being Howard Stern - find me someone who got Roger to scream lately! Have to admit this was one of the more unique interviews Roger has done - a refreshing spin indeed.

@cosmicartery: I agree. There's a lot of cool stuff in here, and it's nice and long too. So what if Stern is his usual self? It's his show, and like you said, he got some stuff out of Roger that we haven't heard in ten billion other interviews.

You guys might think Stern's an arrogant asshole, but I'll tell you what: he cracked Roger Waters, the tough cookie. He got him to talk about some pretty personal things I've never heard about him before (I mean cmon he got the guy to admit he did LSD and say exactly when and where he did it). If you still aren't convinced, compare this interview to Conan O'Brien's interview. He could barely get Waters to say anything.
Props to Stern for engaging Roger and giving us a window into the legend's life and history. This was incredibly awesome. - wurstoffs

Howard Stern is such an arrogant, conceited asshole , he could never even come close to having accomplished what Roger Waters and the entire Pink Floyd Band has done together or solo. But as you know the branch doesn't fall far from the tree as to Howard and the actual people that even listen to him, and it's not just Roger Waters it is anyone Howard doesn't appreciate !!!! Of course everyone has the right to their own opinion
but if u don't know or care about the subject you are interviewing why say anything at all !!!! - knaubone

While a distant cry from the Imp or Rory, 'twas truly a siphon of crud then. I thank you for whatever you choose. Congratulations to the Waters family on the recent nup!

Sorry, but is Stern high???? Probably. He should really be (and most probably is, for the most part) an embarrassment to all Americans. That's not to say that there aren't morons all over the world.... there definitely are. But how this brainless DICK (Stern) has managed to maintain a high-profile career ANYWHERE for so long is a complete mystery to me, and is actually kind of scary. The man is a complete retard. He hardly even LISTENS to what Roger has to say - which is EXTREMELY interesting - and simply loves the sound of his own voice. "Do you still write music?". PLEEEASE!!!! Comments and questions like this... is he even CAPABLE of any kind of coherent adult conversation? Highly unlikely. What a muck-raking prick.
And the way Stern keeps trying to get Roger to say how much he "hates" the rest of Pink Floyd is truly cringeworthy... "Gilmour's not sophisticated like you", which Roger - to his tremendous credit - deflects with great patience, diplomacy and common sense...
Scenario at VIP party: Stern walks into room. Everyone scatters, thinking "Oh Jesus no. Time to go."
