Don Rogall has been shaping underground music culture for over three decades with a distinct artistic vision and uncompromising musical freedom. Based in Berlin, he has delivered the soundtrack to subculture in more than 140 venues across the city and over 100 genre-defining clubs in 18 countries worldwide.
Starting from jazz-infused rare grooves, his journey spans sampling culture and the avant-garde of 90s electronica and Headz, moving through rave, house, dub, drum’n’bass and all forms of breakbeats, as well as diverse live sound system approaches. His work is deeply rooted in the early DJ traditions of the 1950s and 60s, drawing from rhythm & blues, soul and early rock’n’roll, alongside punk culture, global influences, exotica and soundtrack aesthetics.
Beyond the club, Rogall has contributed to international arts festivals and created soundtracks for his own burlesque, variety and circus sideshows, as well as for fashion shows by established designers. His work extends to programming music for corporate spaces, bars and hotels, producing and mixing sound for motion pictures, and teaching emerging artists and DJs, including at the Berlin DJ Music Academy. He has released numerous records across a wide range of genres with several bands. With one of them, Nylon, he was featured on the cover of Der Spiegel for modernizing German music.
His creativity continues to evolve. As an original member of the Sonar Kollektiv network since 1997—one of Berlin’s most influential independent music publishers—he contributed to its early development and produced one of its most successful acts, Micatone, among others.
Rogall has produced and hosted around 200 radio shows for various stations .
He curated festivals at Volksbühne Berlin and has worked as a booker and DJ in many influential clubs, holding residencies at Bassy Club, Delicious Doughnuts, WMF, Cookies, Maria and Lovelite. He has also performed at a wide range of renowned venues and institutions, including Mojo Club Hamburg, Tresor Berlin, E-Werk Berlin, Distillery Leipzig, Batofar Paris, Stammheim Kassel, Dachkantine Zürich, Home Sweet Home New York, Mercati Generali Italy, White Trash Berlin and Festsaal Kreuzberg.
Don has appeared at major festivals and cultural venues including Big Chill Festival (UK), SonneMondSterne Festival, Printemps de Bourges (FR), Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, Volksbühne Berlin, Konzerthaus Berlin, Urban Jazz Festival Bremen and Zeltmusikfestival, among many others.
In recent years, together with the secretive Phantom Islands Heritage Society, he has created the growing “Hoochie Koo” series—widely regarded as one of Berlin’s most original and distinctive club nights.
